Broadcaster Mediatama (?), with the support of the Indonesian
Regulatory Board under the Ministry of Communication and Information
is currently running a DVB-H trial. It began in June 2006 and
will run until December 2006. During this time they plan to evaluate
the standard and to gather other user information. The Nokia N92
handset is being used and currently only a limited user group
is involved. They are planning to involve a larger group drawn
from the general public to get more feedback and evaluation.
More information on this trial will be posted as soon
as we receive it. We also received the information below in February
2006 - no further update is available at present:
Nokia and EMTEK (Elang Mahkota Teknologi) Group, an Indonesian
telecommunications and media company have annouced their intention
to cooperate in conducting a consumer pilot of DVB-H mobile TV
services during 2006.
The pilot will include the participation of EMTEK subsidiaries
PT Mediatama Citra Abadi (PT MECA) and PT Surya Citra Televisi
(SCTV). PT MECA is the main aggregator of the content offering
and the broadcast platform operator, while SCTV is the broadcast
content provider, and Nokia will supply its DVB-H based Mobile
Broadcast Solution as well as the Nokia N92 DVB-H enabled devices.
Scheduled to start in the second half of 2006 and to run for
six months, the pilot will enable the parties involved to accurately
assess the viability of Mobile TV service in Indonesia. It will
test the reception quality of the broadcast coverage, explore
different potential business models, and gauge consumer expectations
of the service
A press release relating to this announcment is available here.
We will provide further information regarding these services
