Bluewin TV Mobile from Swisscom (Switzerland)


DVB-H services are due to available in Switzerland from mid-May 2008. The Swisscom website indicates that 20 of the 30 services that are currently available streamed over the Vodafone Live! service will be broadcast in higher quality using DVB-H. They are branding this service as the "HD" offering within the Bluewin TV Mobile service.

The service will be launched in Zurich, Berne, Basel and Geneva by the time the Euro 2008 football championships kick off in June '08.

PARTICIPATING COMPANIES
At the end of September 2007 and following a criteria-based competition, the Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) awarded Swisscom the licence to set up digital mobile TV in Switzerland based on the DVB-H standard. (Swisscom Broadcast is licensed to operate the DVB-H network in Swizterland)

SERVICE LAUNCH DATE
Service was due to be available byJune 2008, for the UEFA EURO 2008. Swisscom currently indicate that the service will be available to subscribers by mid-May.

BUSINESS MODEL
 

To watch the DVB-H "HD" channels on the Bluewin TV Mobile service subscribers will have to first obtain a DVB-H enabled mobile phone, sold by Swisscom as a "HD-Natel". The cost of these phones is unclear at the time of writing.
Subscription to the service is likely to be purchased on top of a basic talk & text package.

There are 30 channels available on the Vodafone Live! service. Of these, 20 are to be available on the DVB-H service (in superiour quality):

Pro 7, RTL, SAT 1, VOX, SF1, SF2, SF Info, VIVA Schweiz, MTV, Eurosport, TSR1, TSR2, TF1, France 2, France 3, M6 Suisse, TSI1, TSI2, RAI Uno, Canale 5.
