CONDITIONAL ACCESS / DRM TYPE AND PROVIDER

The SPP system used for the launch is OMA BCAST DRM Profile. The Head-end enables OMA BCAST SCP as well which is currently not used due to the absence of compliant terminals. The SPP provider for both systems is CastLabs, former part of the German company Coremedia.

HEADEND EQUIPMENT

The Head-end used for the so-called 'FirstLaunch' in Austria has been developed / integrated by MEDIA BROADCAST GmbH. It currently includes Software and Hardware Technologies of GMIT, CastLabs, FhG HHI, R&S, UDCast, IBM and others.

The Head-end is a so called NEXT GENERATION full IT-based solution based on software components and IBM Blade Centers. All interconnections of modules are based on IP.
Modules like SAT IRDs, Encoders, Failover Systems, ESG, SPP, Scramblers are realized in software only and located on high-availability Hardware Clusters.
Some modules are running in Virtual Machines in N+N redundancy allowing seamless switching on IP level in case of errors.

The solution has been developed for centralized operation of DVB-H services in Germany and abroad by MEDIA BROADCAST GmbH.

The Head-end for Austria excluding the Emergency Power Supply fits into a half rack size to allow extreme small footprints.

RECEIVER / TERMINAL EQUIPMENT

The service has been launched with N77 devices of Nokia provided in customized versions for the three MNOs.
The Nokia terminals used in Austria are fully compliant to the ones used in Germany, Swizerland, Netherlands and other countries.
Beside the N77 also other mobiles are targeting the Austrian market and will be available soon.
